These animated GIFs are created by Japanese artist Segawa thirty-seven, and bring some modern flair to traditional Japanese woodblock prints. His animations, created in Adobe AfterEffects and Photoshop, brings some welcome change to these centuries-old works, highlighting their artistry for a whole new generation of fans.

Some of the artist’s works are natural extensions of the original pieces, adding in crashing waves or a shifting moon from elements in the original print. Segawa thirty-seven’s playful mix of old and new definitely elevates his work above the standard memes that make up most of the Internet’s GIFs.
