Kirk Douglas: American Actor and Humanitarian

Before starring in his most famous roles in Ace in the Hole and The Bad and the Beautiful, Douglas joined the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1941. Douglas served as a communications officer before being honorably discharged in 1944. Years later, in 1981, Douglas received the Presidential Medal of Honor for his work as a goodwill ambassador for the U.S. State Department.
